About Me

Saying that I am very happy to have you here, is an understatement!

You have decided to explore an art-form that is centuries old, yet is still thriving. Let me let you a little about myself since that’s what this page is for.

And I promise, that this will be the only page that talks only about me!

I am Visalakshi Nityanand, and I am a Carnatic Musician. I give live performances, seminars, teach, and offer one-off services. I have been active in this field for more than 40 years.

I started learning the basics from my father Trivandrum R.S. Mani, himself a renowned Carnatic Musician. I gave my first performance at the age of 14 for the All India Radio in 1978. I knew then that this is what I wanted to do all my life.

Although I have been lucky to have had immense exposure in this industry through my father, I still had to go through a personal journey of self-discovery for 20 years to understand the nuances in this field.

To that effect, with my husband, N.G. Nityanand’s advise I decided at the age of 35 to academically qualify myself. I enrolled for a Master’s degree in Indian Music from the University Of Madras, India. I graduated in 2001 with a gold medal.

I am also an ‘A’ Graded artist of the All India Radio where I have given regular recitals for 15 years.

Being in this field has given me the opportunity to travel. I have given performances throughout the Indian subcontinent in remote villages and big, bustling cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Kolkata.

I currently reside in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with my husband where I am the cultural ambassador for the Indian High Commission.

When I am not singing, I love watching movies, cooking, playing with cats and dogs, and talking to young people and getting to know the future generations.

Me, being myself
